Coloma Elementary General Music

Welcome to our Y5s-3 music page! Thank you for supporting our music program!

Coloma students in kindergarten through third grade are on an A/B schedule for specials. They have music and P.E. on one of the days and art and Library+ on the other day, so we see each child in our classes 2-3 times each week for about 25 minutes. Music classes incorporate singing, playing classroom percussion instruments, moving to show different elements in music, and learning to read and write music. Young Fives have a Creative Arts, Movement, & Play class with me every morning, and the class rotates between music, physical education, art, and library activities.

Grading Policy for Young 5s-3rd Grade Music:
Students will receive a grade each marking period for music class. These grades will be based on at least one musical skill per marking period. Musical skills are developmental, and children are able to accomplish things like keeping a steady beat at varying ages. We work on these skills constantly in the lower grade levels. For the older grade levels, concepts like reading rhythms and labeling pitches are best mastered when children take an active part in their musical learning every time they come to class. Kindergarten and Young 5s students will receive a grade of S (secure), D (developing), or B (beginning), while children in grades 1st-3rd receive O (outstanding), S (satisfactory), N (needs improvement), or U (unsatisfactory).

If you have any questions or concerns about your child's music grade or about anything else involving K-3 music or Young 5s Creative Arts, Movement, & Play class, please feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]!
